Act-On software review.
The most slept-on marketing application in 2026. Here is our honest read of Act-On, why we rate it the way we do, and what the independent reviews say.
Our verdict
Act-On is the most slept-on marketing application in 2026. It has a rich history of deep email marketing capability, a firm commitment to customer success, and the most flexible data architecture on the market. The tools are genuinely easy to use, and it is a great platform for marketers who want to run campaigns and not manage databases.
We are not neutral about this and we will not pretend to be. Phil Easley-Bosley spent years inside Act-On as Lead Marketing Automation Strategist and worked with the platform’s leaders, then and now, to make it the most useful marketing application it could be. We have worked in the platform across thousands of use cases. That is exactly why our opinion is worth reading: it is informed, and it is honest about both the strengths and the trade-offs.
Our editorial rating: 4.5 out of 5. A powerful, flexible platform that rewards operators who treat it like infrastructure, held back mainly by brand recognition rather than capability.
Why we rate Act-On this highly
The most flexible data architecture on the market
Most platforms force your audience into their worldview. Act-On does the opposite. The data model gives you room to structure lists, segments, and behavior the way your program actually works, and to integrate with the CRM you already run rather than the one the vendor prefers. For teams with real operational complexity, that flexibility is the difference between a platform you fight and a platform you build on.
Deep email marketing heritage
Act-On grew up as an email platform, and it shows. The sending, deliverability, and authentication tooling is mature in a way that newer entrants have not matched. The email builder is consistently one of the most praised parts of the product in independent reviews.
Easy to use, built for marketers
Act-On is a great tool for marketers who want to run campaigns and not manage databases. The automated program builder handles complex branching and re-enrollment without requiring you to think like an engineer, which is where a lot of teams quietly give up on heavier platforms.
A firm commitment to customer success
This is the part that does not show up in a feature matrix. Act-On invests in its customers with responsive support, regular client success hours, and a genuine willingness to act on feedback. For a considered purchase, that relationship matters as much as the software.
The content tracking edge over HubSpot
We strongly endorse Act-On’s content and document tracking. It remains a feature that HubSpot simply cannot do natively, and one that HubSpot users repeatedly ask for. In the HubSpot community, users keep requesting Pardot-style tracked download links. As one HubSpot customer put it in an August 2025 thread:
“I’m looking for a solution similar to Pardots custom redirect within HubSpot. The use case is for a new CMS page we’re launching. It will have multiple downloads per posting and I’d like a way to track this.”HubSpot Community, Tracking for PDF downloads from website (retrieved June 2026)
Act-On solves this out of the box. You upload a file, create a tracking URL, and every click is attributed back to the contact record, as documented in Act-On’s guide to uploading files and creating tracking URLs. It is a small feature with an outsized impact on attribution, and it is a great example of the quiet, practical depth that makes the platform easy to underrate.
What the reviews say
Our opinion is not the only one that matters. Here is how Act-On scores on the major independent review platforms. The figures below are reported by each platform and were retrieved in June 2026. Follow the links for the current numbers.
“Powerful email marketing with excellent support.”
“I have used Act-On for many years and enjoy the ease of use, their great metrics and the intuitive interface. This is a product I cannot recommend enough.”
“Wonderful customer support. I have had very few problems with Act-On, but those I did have were resolved very fast by my customer care rep.”
“Email composer features modern drag-and-drop.”
Ratings and review counts change over time. Each figure is attributed to its source and linked so you can verify the current numbers yourself.
Pricing, in plain terms
Act-On does not publish public pricing, so treat any number as an estimate until you get a quote. Third-party trackers report the Professional plan commonly starting around 900 dollars per month on an annual contract, with Enterprise pricing quoted custom and higher, as summarized on TrustRadius and Capterra (retrieved June 2026). For considered purchases in the mid-market, the total cost of ownership usually compares favorably to Marketo for similar program depth.
Who owns Act-On Software Inc.
Act-On Software was acquired by Boston Capital Ventures for a reported 53 million dollars in February 2024. In 2025, Act-On and Banzai International announced an agreement for Banzai to acquire the company, but that deal fell through when the financing did not close, as covered by Demand Gen Report and Yahoo Finance (retrieved June 2026). Act-On has continued to operate independently, which is worth knowing if platform stability is part of your decision.
